Hi all. how would a search feature on the boards go down with members? what I'm thinking is this. if you have a particular topic you are intrested in, instead of traulling the boards to look for it, you can type it into a search box and get to it that way. thoughts?
I think that's an excellent idea!
So do I, but are you thinking that a member has to have all the words in the topic exact, or, keyword search? My thoughts on a keyword search go like this. Say I'm looking for topics on Jaws, I type "Jaws" into the box and it comes back with all board topics that have Jaws in their topic line, or, to go one farther Jaws written anywhere in the discussion. It would list the most recently posted to at the top and go backward chronologically.
So you mean if you wanted to look for iPods you'd type iPod? I also always wondered when I look at people's profiles it says last post in topic, but I'm always curious as to what else they posted in so a member search would be good too. Then it'd bring up all the topics that person posted in.
I think both of those ideas are really good. It would be nice to be able to search for a particular topic by typing it in, and it would be cool to see what other topics people have posted in.
could be keyword search, llso user search, so you could, for example, check everything I'd posted on the boards for example.
Sounds like a great idea to me. It could be either a key word search, incase you remembered part of the topic title, or a full search, if you were lucky enough to remember the whole topic title. Great idea.

keyword search would work .. although that would be reliant on people putting accurate topic headings which you can't always rely on. with regards to being able to see where a particular member has posted before, this has been raised in the past, and although I'm not sure what the outcome was, the point was made that some members post to a finominal amount of topics (nearly 2300 for the highest poster), so being able to administer a system that was able to bring up every topic they had posted in might be difficult
Well, here's how I was thinking we'd do this. We could put in the keyword search, then we can put in a combo box after that with the selections that you all mentioned. It could be done. We just have to know what else you guys would want us to include in the combo box so that we can make your search results as specific to what you want as possible.
i think a keyword search would be adiquat. I Also suggested the user postings search but it Kinda fell. I still think it's a great idea though... You can search for quicknotes, so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to search for user posts....
I have spoken to one of the admins, and he says that it is under conder consideration. So, we will see what happens, and I, and the other community leaders, and the admins will post when we've decided how, and if we're gona work this. In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming! They're awesome!
Aren't the boards indexed by google? Why not just search that way?
cause people might like it more if they can just search by the cite. It would be easier, and much more convenient. Now, I have a question for you all. We were debating whether to make this premium or not. What do you all think?
Hmm, I think the best would be to have a simple search for the nonpremium users, and a more complex one for the premium ones? Agreeable?
I like the idea as well. I think displaying a entire members list of what topics they posted in maybe should be premum, and also the advanced search. etc.
I agree, a search feature would be great. I'm trying to look for a particular topic and it's practically impossible.
Na, I still think that the way to go with the search feature is premium. We'll see what we can do though. If admin and the others want to make a simplified search feature for the ungreatful people who don't pay, lol, maybe we'll do it. If they don't, then ya'll are shit out of luck!
sounds like a great idea to me.
